Meal Prepping? The Freezer May Be Your Best Friend!

Whether your meal prepping day is Sunday, Monday, Wednesday or is a struggle to be scheduled into the week, the thought of this task can sometimes be daunting and feel overwhelming. Meal planning and prepping doesn’t have to take up multiple days of your week. In fact, by using some of the tips below, meal prepping can move relatively quickly and leave you with time for other activities in your day.

Buying in Bulk:

Do you find yourself at the grocery store picking up tonight’s salmon or chicken? Are you buying one pack of meat and one bunch of vegetables just to get you through a night or two? If you find yourself doing this, you may want to consider doing the big time-saver of buying in bulk. Buying most eaten foods in bulk will allow you to store, prepare, and plan ahead more to help set yourself up for success.

What Can I Buy in Bulk?

You can buy large bags of frozen vegetables to store in your freezer. Having these items available will allow you to cook larger amounts and have leftovers for the following day’s lunch or dinner. Eating frozen vegetables does not decrease the amount of vitamins and minerals you are receiving from them and will actually save you time and money in the long-run.

Frozen fruit is another item that can be very handy to buy in bulk. If you’re a person who makes smoothies multiple mornings per week or tops oatmeal or yogurt with blueberries or strawberries, a large bag of mixed fruit is your new best friend.

Buying frozen protein sources such as fish, chicken, or pork in bulk can also save a lot of time in the long-run. By having a large amount of these items in the freezer, you will always be ready to make multiple servings at once when it comes to meal prepping day. By being able to cook enough for the next few days ahead, you won’t have to worry about what dinner will be after a long work day.

If looking to buy non-frozen items in bulk,  potatoes, vegetables and fruit can also be purchased in large quantities at certain stores. By having these items available to you in the fridge or on the counter, you will most likely make better choices and not think twice about what to grab as a snack or pack in your lunch.

Buying and preparing in bulk will help you stay on track for multiple weeks at a time as you won’t feel like you’re using up food each day. You will always have enough for future meals if buying in bulk and utilizing the freezer.
