Most of us start our New Year resolutions…well, at the start of the New Year. We also tend to tell ourselves, ‘I’ll go to the gym starting Monday’, postponing our goals until the beginning of next week, and allowing ourselves that grace period to become adjusted to the idea that we’re starting a new habit. Today, we‘re going to go over why you shouldn’t wait until the New Year to start the new you, and motivate you to start or stick with your healthy habits now!
“Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.” — Benjamin Franklin
Sound familiar? This age-old quote still isn’t losing relevance in today’s society. Putting off your goals until tomorrow, only prolong you meeting that goal. Yes, it might seem easier to start a meal plan on Monday, but really ask yourself, ‘why does it seem easier’? It’s easier to put off our goals of eating healthier or exercising until Monday, because change is hard! However, don’t do this to yourself! Change is difficult, but that’s no reason to put it off, especially when we’re talking about our health. Don’t wait until Monday to go t the gym or start meal prepping; it’s only Wednesday and there’s still four more beautiful days left in this week to make changes to get you closer to a healthier you!
“You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.” — Abraham Lincoln
Waiting to start a meal plan doesn’t remove yourself of the responsibility of change, as said earlier, it is only prolonging you reaching goals. Avoiding logging meals or going to the gym only hurts. Again, face what you know needs to be done, rather than putting it off. Waiting for a better day to tackle your goals douses the fire that’s fueling the drive. Use the motivation in planning for tomorrow to get started today! Make yourself a healthy dinner at home tonight, or maybe take a walk around the block after work. You can still plan for a big start at the beginning of the New Year, but for now keep this fire going with small pieces to stay motivated until your big start day.
“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” — Walt Disney
Find what you want, and go after it, in any way that you can! Don’t wait until tomorrow to make something great of yourself, all the little things in life contribute to the best version of you. Putting off your goals not only contributes to lack of motivation, but it also makes it a lot hard to start. Waiting until Monday or New Year to start your goal, puts more pressure on an already difficult task. Pressure, as many of us know, leads to hesitation and bad decisions. Don’t add extra pressure to start a huge change, take on small changes for now, anything to just get started!
Today can one tiny start of a huge New Year resolution. Taking the time to prepare yourself for change is just as important as change itself, but how long have you prepared yourself for this? Take the metabolic quiz today to see how you can start your resolution right now.
